Limited Competition for Dietary Supplement Research Centers: Botanicals (P50): - This is an announcement for a limited competition to solicit renewal applications for Dietary Supplement Research Centers focused on botanicals. This invitation is limited to institutions that were previously funded under the Botanical Research Center Program but did not apply for renewal under RFA OD-04-002. -Up to $1.5 million in total costs will be awarded annually for three years.-It is anticipated that one (1) award will be made in 2007.-This RFA will use the P50 funding mechanism.-Eligible organizations include institutions that were funded as Botanical Research Centers under RFA-OD-99-007 or RFA-OD-00-004 but did not apply for renewal under RFA-OD-04-002.-Eligible principal investigators include experienced scientists with leadership and administrative skills commensurate with those required to lead a P50 or similar award mechanism.-Applicants may not submit more than one application in response to this RFA.-See Section IV.1 for application materials.-Telecommunications for the hearing impaired is available at: TTY 301-451-0088-Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the mechanism numbers, quality, duration, and costs of the applications received.-Budgets for direct costs of up to $50,000 per year and a project duration of up to two years may be requested for a maximum of $100,000 direct costs over a two-year project period. -Eligible organizations: For profit organizations; Non-profit organizations; Public or private institutions, such as universities, colleges, hospitals and laboratories; Units of State government; Units of local government; Eligible institutions of the Federal government; Domestic institutions; Foreign institutions; Faith-based or community-based organizations; Units of State Tribal government; and Units of Local Tribal government. -Eligible Project Directors/Principal Investigators (PD/PIs): Any individual with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research is invited to work with their institution to develop an application for support. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are always encouraged to apply for NIH support.-Applicants may submit more than one application, provided each application is scientifically distinct.

Eligible Institutions You may submit an application if your organization has any of the following characteristics: Your institution received a Notice of Award (NoA) to participate as a Botanical Research Center under RFA-OD-99-007 or RFA-OD-00-004 but did not apply for renewal under RFA-OD-04-002. 1.B. Eligible Individuals Any individual with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research is invited to work with their institution to develop an application for support. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are always encouraged to apply for NIH programs. The PI must be able to commit at least 25 percent effort to the grant (10 percent Administrative Core and 15 percent as a Research Project Leader).
