MULTI-INT RESEARCH INTIATIVES AT THE NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL: The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is interested in receiving proposals for research initiatives that offer potential for advancement and improvement in the following multi-intelligence (Multi-INT) research topic areas: • Inferencing and Reasoning• Orchestrated Resource Management• VisualizationA detailed description of each area, along with submittal instructions, is contained herein. The Center for Multi-INT Studies (CMIS) supports research that develops theoretical foundations, models, and algorithms to enable timely, robust, and optimal sense making, situation awareness and decision making. Researchers must consider incomplete information in highly complex and dynamic intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) systems. These ISR systems are often comprised of centralized and distributed sensors, human observers, database management systems, and associated databases. Such systems operate in uncertain, resource-constrained environments against problems of significant complexity and urgency.Approaches developed are expected to include multi-disciplinary methodologies. This effort is being conducted under Goal 2 of the CMIS multi-year Research Program Plan covering the period FY14-FY18. CMIS’ strategic research goals are to:Goal 1: Provide national Multi-INT research leadership.Goal 2: Expand the number, breadth, and depth of researchers conducting high-value Multi-INT research.Goal 3: Deliver high-value research outcomes.Investigators will have an opportunity to share their results with a community of academic, government, and industry stakeholders at the 2014 Multi-INT Research Summit to be held in August 2014. Results will be published in the 2014 CMIS Annual Multi-INT Research Report, which will be released publicly in November 2014.(1) This call is for full proposals only. White papers will not be considered. (2) This call is leading to the award of grants only. Proposals leading to development of cooperative agreements or contracts will not be considered. Research grants must have the potential to provide a public benefit, one beyond potential benefit to the U.S. Government, and this anticipated public benefit must be described in all proposals.(3) Travel costs for one (1) round trip for up to three (3) members of the research team to and from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, for three (3) days (not including travel days) must be included in the cost proposal and include travel for the Principal Investigator. This travel is for the purposes of attending and presenting research findings at the CMIS Annual Research Summit to be held in August 2014 for the purpose of expanding knowledge through discussion and distribution of research reports. Travel to this event for additional team members will be considered; however, a written justification for each must be included.
