NIJ FY07 Biometrics Technologies: The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is the research, development, and evaluation agency of the U.S. Department of Justice and a component of the Office of Justice Programs (OJP). NIJ provides objective, independent, evidence-based knowledge and tools to enhance the administration of justice and public safety. NIJ solicits proposals to inform its search for the knowledge and tools to guide policy and practice. NIJ is seeking applications for funding the development and evaluation of biometric technologies, or novel applications of biometric technologies, that will (1) reduce crime, (2) enhance law enforcement and corrections officers ability to correctly identify cooperative and non-cooperative individuals, and (3) fix the identity of individuals in the justice system.
