NIJ FY07 Information-Led Policing Research, Technology Development, Testing, and Evaluation: The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is the research, development, testing, and evaluation agency of the U.S. Department of Justice and a component of the Office of Justice Programs (OJP). NIJ provides objective, independent, evidence-based knowledge and tools to enhance the administration of justice and public safety. NIJ solicits proposals to inform its search for the knowledge and tools to guide policy and practice. NIJ is seeking applications for funding the research, development, testing, and evaluation of information and data technologies that can be used to increase the effectiveness of State and local law enforcement agencies. More specifically, NIJ is interested in concepts in one of the following areas: Research and Development: . Identity matching and entity resolution. . Positive identification (ID) information sharing. . Global Justice XML Data Model-based messaging for law enforcement. . Data analysis tools for multidiscipline data sharing systems. . Alert system mechanism to notify law enforcement agencies of "hits." Testing and Evaluation: . Proof-of-concept implementation of the Justice Reference Architecture (JRA). . Proof-of-concept for matching, scoring, and filtering of data for law enforcement. NIJ seeks studies that have the potential to reduce or prevent crime or improve law enforcement policy and practice.
