NIJ FY08 Research and Evaluation on Justice System Responses to Violence Against Women: The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is the research, development, and evaluation agency of the U.S. Department of Justice and a component of the Office of Justice Programs (OJP). NIJ provides objective, independent, evidence-based knowledge and tools to enhance the administration of justice and public safety. NIJ solicits applications to inform its search for the knowledge and tools to guide policy and practice. NIJ seeks applications to gain research knowledge to increase womens safety and improve the justice system and related responses to intimate partner violence, sexual assault, stalking, and teen dating violence perpetrated against women. Research is sought on women victims safety and protection; programs and policies to hold offenders accountable; law enforcement, prosecution, and judicial responses; coordinated community responses; and effective responses to violence against women in diverse communities. Applications proposing foundational and developmental research may be submitted, although the primary goal of the program is to support research on the effectiveness of strategies and interventions that will result in general and useful information for policy and practice.
