Northern Sierra Nevada Fisher Translocation Continuity: This agreement provides funding for the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) to provide both field technicians and a project manager for a cooperative fisher research and monitoring projects in the northern Sierra Nevada. Cooperators include: the California Department of Fish & Wildlife (CDFW), the US Fish & Wildlife Service USFWS), Sierra Pacific Industries, and North Carolina State University (NCSU). The objective is to fulfill the research and monitoring needs identified in the Service's Canadidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances (CCAA) for the fisher on the Stirling Management Area, Sierra Pacific Industries. One of the obectives of the CCAA was to provide an avenue to translocate fishers (a candidate species for listing under ESA) to an area of their range where they no longer existed. In addition, this project is designed to study fishers responses to timber harvest related activities within an industrial, sustained-yield managed forest.
