Notice of Intent: A Survey of the Fauna of Seepage Springs in National Capital Parks-East: This action is a continuation of the project ongoing with the current Task Agreement. This funding will continue with the work described in original award, and will inventory more NPS land for seeps and springs, water and invertebrate sampling, identification of invertebrates and data maintenance.
The project schedule is revised to include:
In the next three years from 2016 through 2018, all NACE areas in DC (approximately 3,200 hectares) will be sampled at least once (promising areas will be sampled twice). Field work will begin in early January and will end once the weather is too warm and dry for seep identification â¿¿ usually by May 1.
During 2016, the following areas will be sampled:
â¿¢ Northern portion of Suitland Parkway
â¿¢ Oxon Run
â¿¢ Southern portion of Oxon Cove
For 2016-2017, we will sample:
â¿¢ Lower 2/3 of Fort Circle parks
For 2017-2018, we will sample:
â¿¢ Northern 1/3 of Fort Circle parks
â¿¢ Anacostia Park west of the Anacostia River.
September 15 -- Each year an annual progress report will be submitted by September 15.
August 30, 2018 -- a draft final report will be submitted for NPS review.
October 30, 2018 -- final report submitted, including a georeferenced list of all small water bodies found, a list of macrocrustacea found (amphipods and isopods) in each site, and recommendations for protection and prioritization.
