Notice of Intent: Monitoring soundscapes to investigate interactions between human activities, Sonoran pronghorn and other wildlife: Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument (ORPI) is an International Biosphere Reserve that covers approximately 330,000 acres, of which over 312,000 or 95% is designated wilderness. It lies within an undeveloped area of the Sonoran Desert. These undeveloped areas include the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve in Mexico, Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge (CPNWR), Barry M. Goldwater Range, Bureau of Land Management, and Tohono Oâ¿¿odham Nation. All of these lands provide habitat for the endangered Sonoran pronghorn (Antilocapra americana sonorensis). The effects of human activities on Sonoran pronghorn is poorly understood. The objective of this project is to monitor human disturbance, specifically sound disturbance, of Sonoran pronghorn and other wildlife at ORPI and CPNWR.
