Notice of Intent: SW EPMT-UNLV Collaborative Restoration Projects for Glen Canyon NRA and Tuzigoot NM: he Southwest Exotic Plant Management Team (SW EPMT) and Dr. Scott Abella will work together to plan two projects: the first will be a watershed management research project concentrating on protecting areas from infestation by Ravenna grass (Saccharum ravennae) and other invasive plants at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (GLCA); and the second will be research on the restoration of areas infested with kochia (Kochia scoparium) at Tuzigoot National Monument (TUZI). In addition, park staff, the SW EPMT, and Dr. Scott Abella will collaborate on executing the recommended restoration work for both projects. All will work together to organize and manage work crews, volunteer crews, student interns, educational materials, any needed research, and logistics of the recommended projects.

Public Purpose of this Agreement: One of the primary purposes of this agreement is to plan strategies for involving local people and schools in caring for the parks. The recipient and park staff will work together to engage local and national groups to partake in research and restoration activities in both parks; these groups and their contacts will be listed. The recipient and the SW EPMT will collaborate to provide educational materials for park interpretive staff so that they calead local school groups and national conservation groups in learning about park resources and issues, and can participate in maintenance and monitoring of the sites.
