Notice of Intent: Symposium on the 2019 Anchorage Earthquake: Notice of Intent to issue a cooperative agreement to to the University of Alaska in support of a Symposium on the 2018 Anchorage Earthquake. The objective of the agreement is to support a symposium on the November 30, 2018 Anchorage earthquake focused on the earthquake and its impacts, to highlight the research that has already occurred and to stimulate new investigations and collaborations to make the most of this rare event. The November 30, 2018 Anchorage earthquake was the most impactful earthquake in the U.S. in many years. Damages are still being assessed as summer arrives, but they are easily measured in the hundreds of millions of dollars. While the earthquake is an unfortunate occurrence for those who experienced it, it is an “experiment” that nature does not conduct often. The earthquake, it's impact on society, and our collective response provide an exceedingly rare dataset, even more so in the U.S. These data are rich with lessons if the research community (academic, private, and agency) is vested in the full breadth of the data and observations and pursues research accordingly.
