P16AS00256: The 2016 restoration project will deal with correcting erosion sections of major dirt/gravel roads on the Preserve, preventing soil and sediment from being washed into nearby streams (which causes water quality degradation problems). The areas of road that are disrupting the flow of water to wetlands have been determined in an inventory and assessment of the watershed; the 2016 actions will address the Preserveâ¿¿s roads leading into the Valle Seco area (VC06 and VC08 roads). Designs for remediation work have been produced, and are ready for implementation. The restoration actions that will be implemented on Preserveâ¿¿s VC08 and VC06 roads include:
ï¶ Construction of rolling dips, grade breaks, cross drains, and other treatments that minimize accumulation of runoff on the road surface and spread it onto the surrounding land.
ï¶ Construction of short downhill approaches at low-water crossings where the watercourse is being â¿¿capturedâ¿ by the road surface.
ï¶ Use of flat culverts to disperse flow downstream from the road.
ï¶ Realignment, relocation, or rebuilding problem road segments in order to provide more favorable drainage options (this will largely be at the intersection of VC06 and 08 roads and will likely create at least five acres of wetland as well as fix the road).
