Phenology Monitoring - Nature's Notebook Citizen Science for Management and Engagement: Technical Assistance: 1. Expand and / or adapt existing regional projects generally focusing in three Service priority areas of interest: Middle Rio Grande (Bosque) ecosystem, Mississippi River corridor for Mayflies, and Monarch Butterfly central flyway. These areas provide the FWS an opportunity to combine Service data with off-station data to better understand climate change impacts across large-scale areas, ecosystems, and FWS units rather than in isolation.
2. Communication and revision of the FWS-NPN portal content and organization. The site will be modified to improve data access and analysis and provide clear examples of how currently established phenology monitoring on stations has led to enhanced baseline information needed for decision making and conservation planning.
3. Assessment of biological response to climate change across Refuges. Following the model developed for the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) (Monahan et al., Ecosphere, in prep), we will calculate the historical range of variability and trends in the onset of spring for each NWRS unit.
