Research Opportunities In Aeronautics 2015 Nra Appendix D.4 - Convergent Aeronautics Solutions Project: On May 18, 2015, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate issued NASA Research Announcement (NRA) NNH15ZEA001N Appendix D.4 Convergent Aeronautics Solutions (CAS) Project. The release included the following 2 subtopics in Appendix D.4 for foundational research in support of the Convergent Aeronautics Solutions Project: (4.2.1) Transformative Innovation and (4.2.2) Tools to Support and Innovative Culture. Proposals are due July 2, 2015.
The Convergent Aeronautics Solutions (CAS) Project consists of a diversified portfolio of research and development activities aligned with NASA strategic thrusts pursuing novel concepts focused on system-level benefits with the potential to significantly outperform current solutions. The focus is on convergence of traditional aeronautics disciplines with technologies driven by the non-aerospace community to advance innovative solutions enabling new capabilities in commercial aviation. These types of innovation cannot be managed using the same approaches commonly used for other types of NASA research and technology development focused on more incremental improvements.
The CAS projects seeks to engage the innovation and design communities to identify, assess, and adapt alternative methods and tools to support an innovative organization and build an innovative workforce able to more effectively respond to global trends associated with the accelerating pace of technological change, democratization of information, rapid advances in technologies outside of aerospace, and increasing complexity of society.
This is an opportunity to conduct research projects that can be used by NASA to inform and support internal decisions associated with developing skills within the NASA workforce and infrastructure at the NASA field centers to foster and sustain an innovative organization necessary to pursue highly collaborative and transformative solutions; nurture development of in-house, cross-discipline, technical integrators and facilitators that can foster idea generation, outreach, and collaboration; gather and learn to apply best innovation practices; incorporate convergent (non-aerospace) capabilities that help enable innovation organizations; identify and assess platforms and their utilization for collaboration across diverse technical communities, increase awareness of strategic challenges, and support collaborative distributed development of and decision making associated with innovative solutions; and enhance existing NASA labs and facilities to create and enhance physical and dig
ital inter-center incubation and innovation environments.
Organizations interested in working with NASA to help enable future revolutions in aeronautics and aerospace may consider submitting a proposal under the NASA Research Announcement NNH15ZEA001N-CAS1. The complete solicitation (to include due dates) can be accessed via the following steps:
