Restoration of wet woods and coastal wetland areas around Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial on South Bass Island, OH (Lake Erie)- GLRI: This Cooperative Agreement P17AC01120 (Agreement) is entered into by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service (NPS), and Put-In-Bay Township Park District (Recipient).The objective of this Agreement is to restore coastal wetland and wet woods in South Bass and Middle Bass Islands in Lake Erie. The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative supports projects of priority to National Park Service. These islands have high density populations and limited public lands. The lands that are publicly accessible are often degraded and need restoration work completed. This project will support restoration efforts on approximately 18 acres in this area that surround Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial (PEVI).With funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), restoration of coastal wetlands and wet wood areas around Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial (PEVI) on South Bass Island, OH (Lake Erie) and Middle Bass Island will be completed by Put-in-Bay Park Township District via paid and volunteer efforts. Surveying of the land, removal of invasive species, and planting of native species at the highest priority sites will be completed. Priority will be determined by 1) likelihood of success (i.e. small patches of work will be prioritized over large areas that would take multiple years effort); 2) completion of restoration for specific areas; 3) other discussions with park staff. Additional restoration work needs will be identified if these efforts are not sufficient.Milestones:• Fall 2017: Provide funds to Put-in-Bay Park Township District.• Spring 2018: Put-in-Bay Park Township District initiates work.• Fall 2018: Field work completed by Put-in-Bay Park Township District.Great Lakes Action Plan II Measure of Progress:4.1.3 - Number of acres of Great Lakes coastal wetlands protected, restored and enhanced by GLRI-funded projects.Work completed with FY2017 funding will result in restoration or enhancement on 18 acres. STATEMENT OF WORKRECIPIENT AGREES TO: 1. Work with Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial (PEVI) staff, the NPS GLRI Coordinator and Assistant, and local community to plan restoration work at each site;2. Oversee work groups to complete wet woods and coastal wetland restoration work;3. Share results with PEVI and GLRI Coordinator, as well as the local community.NATIONAL PARK SERVICE AGREES TO:1. Prioritize priority restoration work with the Recipient;2. Provide training, if needed;3. Provide vehicle(s), if needed; and4. Provide staff to work with the Township Park District on restoration efforts.
