Second Stand Alone Mission of Opportunity Notice Announcement of Opportunity Including A Proposal Opportunity for the Earth System Science Pathfinder Program: Earth Venture Instrument - 1: NNH12ZDA006O Second Stand Alone Mission of Opportunity Notice (SALMON-2) Notice Type: Solicitation Release Date: February 7, 2012 NNH12ZDA006O-EVI1 Program Element Appendix: Earth Venture Instrument-1 (EVI-1) Notice Type: Solicitation Release Date: February 7, 2012 Notice of Intent to propose Due: March 22, 2012 Proposals Due: May 8, 2012 The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Mission Directorate (SMD) is releasing a NASA Announcement of Opportunity (NNH12ZDA006O), entitled "Second Stand Alone Missions of Opportunity Notice (SALMON-2)." SALMON-2 is an omnibus AO that enables independent proposal opportunities that support the science, exploration, and technology objectives of NASA's Science Mission Directorate (SMD), Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate (HEOMD), and Office of the Chief Technologist (OCT). Proposal opportunities will be added to SALMON-2 in the future through amendments and synopsized. This initial release of SALMON-2 includes one proposal opportunity for Earth Venture Instruments-1. Concurrent with the release of SALMON-2, SALMON-1 (NNH08ZDA009O) is closed. The closing date of SALMON-1 is amended to be February 7, 2012, and no more program element appendices will be added to SALMON-1. Earth Venture Instruments-1 is an element within the Earth System Science Pathfinder (ESSP) Program that conducts Principal Investigator (PI)-led Earth science investigations relevant to SMD's Earth Science Division. This solicitation calls for proposals for complete PI-led science investigations requiring spaceflight instrument development. When deployed on a satellite selected by NASA, these spaceflight instruments will be used to conduct innovative, integrated, hypothesis- or scientific question-driven investigations addressing pressing Earth system science issues. This solicitation solicits investigations addressing any of the science focus areas in NASA's Earth Science program. This solicitation will be open from February 7, 2012, through May 8, 2012. Upon the release date, the full text of the AO and all appendices will be available electronically at http://nspires.nasaprs.com and at http://go.nasa.gov/SALMON2-AO . A preproposal conference will be held in mid-March 2012 in the Washington, DC, area; see http://essp.larc.nasa.gov/EV-I for details. Participation is open to all categories of organizations (U.S. and non-U.S), including educational institutions, industry, not-for-profit organizations, Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), NASA Centers, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and other Government agencies.
