Strengthening Care and Support Services for Orphans and Vulnerable Children and their Families, plus HIV Prevention for Youth in the Republic of Cote dIvoire Under the Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR): The purpose of this announcement is to support the implementation of capacity building for OVC services, a parent-focused prevention intervention, Families Matter, and complementary youth-focused prevention activities for 10-14, and 15-19 year olds in order to reduce sexual risk behaviors among adolescents with particular focus on girls' vulnerability. "Families Matter" is an evidence-based intervention designed to promote positive parenting practices and effective parent-child communication on delayed sexual debut, sexuality, and decision-making. This intervention recognizes that many parents and guardians may need support to effectively convey values and expectations about sexual behavior and communicate important HIV, STI, and pregnancy prevention messages to their children. "Families Matter" is intended to provide parents and caregivers of 9-12 year olds specific information about ways that they can reduce their children's risk of becoming infected with HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STI) or becoming pregnant and build their confidence in speaking about these sensitive topics. By giving parents tools to deliver primary prevention messages to their children, "Families Matter" aims to overcome communication barriers and facilitate parent-child discussions about sexuality and sexual risk reduction. A successful applicant will utilize French, "Families Matter" intervention materials and will implement program activities which adhere to the core components in an effort to remain faithful to the original intent of the intervention's design.
