Surveillance and Response to Avian and Pandemic Influenza by Regional Offices of the World Health Organization: Following the Presidents National Strategy, this announcement seeks to assist the six Regional Offices of the World Health Organization (WHO), the lead health agency of the United Nations, in their implementation of a coordinated plan to assist national governments and regional authorities to improve surveillance for influenza, build public health infrastructure, detect and respond to outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza worldwide, and to implement improved infectious disease prevention and control strategies.
