THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS- Comprehensive Archeological Inventory of Ruddick's Field within Pea Ridge National Military Park- THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS: This project is the second year of a prospective four-year project to conduct an archeological inventory within targeted areas of the Pea Ridge National Military Park. This project is a collaboration among the Midwest Archaeological Center of the National Park Service, Pea Ridge National Military Park, and the Arkansas Archeological Survey (ARAS) organized under the federal Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Units (CESU) program. Field work and subsequent analyses will increase our understanding of the site history and events that occurred in historic Leetown, providing the National Park Service with more accurate and comprehensive interpretation of historic events both for content presented on-site and at the Visitor Center.
The overall goal of this project is to conduct an archeological inventory of Leetown and associated cultural features (i.e., cemetery, road, etc.), while evaluating the extent of intact archeological deposits associated with Leetown. The second year of this four-year project will accomplish four performance goals through the combination of targeted, multisensor geophysical techniques and excavations to investigate: 1) the cultural landscape of mid to late 19th-century Leetown; 2) precisely identify subsurface cultural anomalies associated with activities at Leetown, with the Leetown cemetery and previous roads as areas of targeted focus; 3) evaluate the interpretative potential and integrity of subsurface archeological deposits at Leetown; and 4) prepare artifacts for analysis and conduct a preliminary analysis of recovered culturally related data.
