The Role of Cardiomyocyte Mitochondria in Heart Disease: An Integrated Approach (R01): -Purpose. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) invites applications for collaborative research projects to develop an integrated understanding of cardiomyocyte mitochondria and its contributions to myocardial adaptations and heart disease progression by combining functional data with information derived from powerful new technologies. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the R01 grant mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NHLBI intends to commit approximately $4 million in total costs in FY2010, and up to $16 million over four years, to fund up to six grants under this FOA. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
