Trails Intern for Deferred Maintenance and Volunteer Program: THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS NOT A REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS. This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service's intention to award a task agreement under a previously competed or single source justified master cooperative agreement. Master Cooperative Agreement Number P15AC00031 was entered into by and between the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, (NPS), and The Student Conservation Association (SCA) to build the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of our environment and communities by engaging young people in hands-on service to the land through service opportunities, outdoor skills, and leadership training. Through this project, the one-year intern will assist with trail stewardship projects and public programs while developing skills in public lands management. Specific activities will include: 1) participating in and supporting park hiking tours and trail-based public programs; 2) assisting with coordinating the park's various hiking events and community trails stewardship days; 3) working with the park resource manager and facility manger to develop work plans for trail crews to address high priority projects; 4) reviewing NPS best-practices in using social media for engaging the public in resource stewardship issues, and conducting social media posts for trail updates; 5)receiving training on park facility management protocols and conducting an inventory of trails, and developing maintenance recommendations in consultation with park resource manager and facilities staff; 6) conducting trail patrols and engaging visitors to gain a greater understanding of winter recreational uses and issues; and 7) working with park Volunteer-in-the-Parks coordinator to help refine and recruit for a Trail Ambassador program. In addition, the intern will participate in orientation and mandatory trainings (1st AID and CPR training, Tick awareness training, computer/IT training); and skill develop training opportunities offered by park staff and partners, including place-based education workshops, field sessions with park resource manager and facility management specialists, and working woodlands/forestry skills workshops.
