U.S. Consulate General, Kolkata: Strengthening Women’s Empowerment and Leadership at the Grassroots Level through Capacity Development: The U.S. Consulate General, Kolkata invites applications to implement a one year project that will work towards capacity development of women leaders in West Bengal at the grass roots level. The U.S. National Security Strategy states, “Countries are more peaceful and prosperous when women are accorded full and equal rights and opportunity.” Engaging women as political and social actors can change policy choices because they bring a range of unique experiences and contributions in decision-making on matters of national importance. Despite recent progress, women around the world are still largely absent from national and local decision-making bodies or if present, are often relegated to the background. The inclusion of women as a central driver of socio-economic activity and growth, in both developed and developing economies around the globe, is definitely a way towards a more balanced world. Women have the potential to bring about change, but they often lack organization, mentoring and guidance due to lack of time, given their multiple roles as bread winners, wives and mothers.
