Upper Midwest and Great Lakes Landscape Conservation Cooperative: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), Midwest Region, is providing a single source grant agreement award without competition to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to explore the relationship between dam infrastructure condition with the retention, modification, or removal of these barriers to optimize fisheries conservation objectives for tributaries in the Lake Michigan basin. Researchers with the University of Wisconsin-Madison are uniquely qualified to do this work because they developed the optimization framework necessary to integrate dam attributes with desired fisheries objectives. They also recently completed the field collection and database development for the Lake Michigan dam attributes and currently maintain that database. Their familiarity with the modeling framework, data, and the hardware capacity provided by the University of Wisconsin-Madison makes them uniquely qualified to complete the necessary work.
