Asthma and Indoor Air Quality Education and Outreach: The goal of Region 4's Indoor Air Program is to decrease health effects of poor Indoor Air Quality by improving both knowledge of IAQ and actual indoor environmental conditions. Comparative risk studies performed by EPA and its Science Advisory Board have ranked indoor air pollution among the top five environmental risks to public health effects. Children may be especially vulnerable to these health effects. EPA estimates that indoor air level of many pollutants are typically 2-5 times, and occasionally more than 100 times, higher than outdoor levels. These levels are of particular concern because it is estimated that most people spend 90% of their time indoors. For more information about the USEPA's IAQ program, visit www.epa.gov/iaq.
