Grant Description
Applicant(s) will be responsible for assisting NRCS with wildlife habitat GIS layers and the interpretation of this data, impacts of existing and proposed land management on wildlife species, and technical assistance on conservation practices and systems that if applied would be beneficial to the conservation of wildlife and wildlife habitat. This assistance is necessary to develop and implement USDA conservation programs. The objective of the agreement is to provide technical assistance to NRCS in planning, surveying, designing, layout, construction inspections and checkout of conservation practices associated with installation of conservation systems. All assistance provided in conservation planning, conservation practice application, and other areas of technical assistance must meet USDA standards and specifications as set forth in Departmental manuals, handbooks, and Field Office Technical Guide. The applicant(s) shall provide technical expertise for biological planning, practice design and installation, and training Examples of how technical expertise will be used include: conservation plan development, program contract development, tree planting and grass seeding designs, restoration, creation and enhancement of wetlands, wildlife habitat management, environmental and wetland assessments, plant community ecology assessments, in-service training, producer workshops, conservation and wetland promotion and marketing throughout the state. The applicant(s) will provide assistance throughout Florida. The NRCS State Biologist at Gainesville, Florida will coordinate and provide day-to-day guidance of technical assistance activities. The planning and application of conservation systems will be with a focus on upland and wetland wildlife habitat management, wildlife management systems, and potential environmental impacts associated with practice installation. Knowledge of the following Conservation Practices is required: Brush Management (314), Prescribed Burning (338), Field Border (386), Filter Strip (393), Firebreak (396), Riparian Herbaceous Cover (390), Riparian Forest Buffers (391), Hedgerow Planting (422), Forest Site Preparation (490), Forest Stand Improvement (666), Forest Trails and Landings (655), Tree/Shrub Establishment (612), Use Exclusion (472), Upland Wildlife Habitat Management (645), Wetland Restoration (657), Wetland Enhancement (659),and Wetland Wildlife Habitat Management (644). Also knowledge of the impact other conservation practices have on wildlife values.
