Grant Description: This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages applications that propose to conduct mechanistic studies of the circadian rhythms involved in alcohol-induced organ damage. The circadian system comprises of a complex feedback network that involves interactions between the central nervous system and peripheral tissues. The effects of alcohol on circadian rhythm and how alcohols action is modulated by circadian rhythms have key implications for alcohol research. The central and peripheral oscillators, either individually or together, may play an important role in alcohol-induced tissue injury. The objective of this FOA is to understand the molecular mechanisms of alcohol-induced tissue damage that involve central and peripheral circadian rhythms, particularly their connection with metabolism and metabolic disorders.
