Comparative Biology: Mechanisms of Aging: The NIA is soliciting applications that use comparative biology approaches to understand the biological mechanisms that lead to changes in human and other animal cells and tissues with age. The major questions to be addressed under this RFA are: How does increasing age lead to biological changes, especially decrements in cell, tissue and organ function; and what sets the rate of aging such that different organisms have different life expectancies? Studies that take advantage of the differences in aging and life expectancy between species and within species to investigate hypotheses on the mechanisms of aging are encouraged.
