Competitive Faculty Development Program: There is no application process for this award. This is a single source announcement under justification 505 DM 2.14B (4), the recipient's unique ability to carry out the proposed tasks. The Division of International Conservation intends to enter into an agreements with Ecole de Faune de Garoua. Ecole de Faune de Garoua is a unique institution as it is the only regional college serving Francophone Africa that provides specialized technical and professional training in the field of wildlife conservation and protected area management. EFG has provided in-service training to park staff from West and Central Africa for more than 40 years. Their location in Cameroon enables the college to train students in one of the most biologically-diverse countries in Africa. As the college is currently undergoing improvements with its infrastructure and has hired eight new faculty members, a new USFWS scholarship program and Competitive Faculty Development Program will help EFG to address two primary issues confronting EFG's capacity to achieve its mission: 1) the decline in enrollment due to the recent financial crisis and dwindling support for wildlife conservation; and 2) the lack of sufficient resources to further develop the capacity of their teaching staff to incorporate contemporary topics in wildlife and great ape conservation into their curriculum.
