Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Great Lakes Northern Forest CESU: USGS has initiated a large project to downscale the AOGCM models to identify how climate and land-use change will impact the vulnerability of fish habitat at national, regional, and local scales. Results from this project will be used to determine the biological responses of fishes to these changes. This project relies on the on-going work of the partnership-driven National Fish Habitat Action Plan's (NFHAP) national assessment of fish habitat and work in Minnesota glacial lakes to incorporate global climate change models and predicted land-use change as a model for glacial lakes in the upper Midwest. Funding provided under this project will be used to develop a Minnesota lake-specific mechanistic model predicting hypolimnetic oxygen concentrations and temperature to a watershed nutrient loading model (predicted by the SWAT watershed model) to predict the amount of coldwater fish habitat.
