Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Piedmont-South Atlantic Coast: The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research to support a collaborative research effort with USGS scientists to develop a decision model to find optimal rules for turbine operation to reduce eel mortality in hydroelectric dams while reducing unnecessary turbine shutdown. Eel migration in the Shenandoah River will be used as a case study. The CESU partner will provide assistance for predictive modeling and dynamic optimization steps of the decision model.
