FY 2022 Tribal Solid Waste Grant: To address solid waste management issues, EPA is responsible for implementing the Solid Waste Disposal Act (SWDA) Subtitle D program, 42 U.S.C 6941, et seq. The SWDA Subtitle D program's objective is to assist in developing and encouraging methods for the disposal of solid waste which are environmentally sound and that maximize the utilization of valuable resources including energy and materials which are recoverable from solid waste and to encourage resource conservation. This grant was created to assist tribes in conducting solid waste management activities that gauge the extent of threat to human health and the environment and assist with establishing sustainable waste management programs. In accordance with the EPA Indian Policy of 1984, EPA recognizes tribal governments as the primary parties for managing solid waste programs for reservations.Grants awarded under this RFA are not funded through the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Although the scope of this funding opportunity does not include infrastructure projects, activities such as, but not limited to, planning, assessment, evaluation, and training funded under this announcement may be preliminary activities that support infrastructure projects in the future.
