- The National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) is now accepting applications for the 2005-2006 year from its documentary editing projects interested in serving as host institutions for an NHPRC Fellow in Historical Documentary Editing. Established in 1967, the NHPRC Fellowship in Historical Documentary Editing is designed to give fellows hands-on experience in historical documentary editing including documentary collection, document selection, transcription, annotation, proofreading, and indexing. The fellow's stipend is $40,000, with a benefit payment of $10,000. Host institutions are awarded $1,500, to interview prospective applicants and to use for the fellow's professional travel during the fellowship year. The host institution will be chosen by December 1, 2005. Applications for prospective fellows will be made available at that time. Applications from potential fellows are due by March 1, 2006. The fellow will be selected by the host project from the pool of candidates who have applied to the NHPRC. The fellowship will begin in the late summer or early fall of 2006. The Commission encourages any interested editing project to contact the Commission staff to discuss their applications. The Commission staff will work with applicants to assure that their proposals include the range of opportunities desired by the Commission.
