Category Explanation: In support of the advancement of the U.S. national workforce development and educational goals, MUREP PSI seeks to inspire, equip, and prepare high school students for college STEM degree programs and STEM careers. The MUREP PSI is designed using evidence-based effective strategies to enhance high school students’ precollege performance, prepare them for college entrance, and ultimately achieve success in their higher education pursuits and in STEM careers. Without the fundamental support provided by federal programs such as the MUREP PSI, students from groups traditionally underrepresented and/or underserved in STEM fields may be less likely to consider or pursue STEM college degrees and careers, thereby limiting the talent pool of highly qualified candidates. MUREP PSI-proposed programs shall be implemented as residential experiences on the campuses of HBCUs and PBIs. HBCU and PBI campuses without residential facilities shall partner with other educational institutions to provide residential accommodations.
