Moldova Citizen Participation: The purpose of this five year project is to enhance the capacity of citizens to create tangible and positive changes in their own communities through democratic practices. The implementer will ensure that the benefits of the market oriented economy and democracy reach the general populace and more specifically that democratic institutions are more effective, responsive and accountable. Principal project component include mobilization of communities throughout Moldova, excluding Chisinau, funding of local community development activities, capacity building of community activists and NGOs, selecting and supporting local leadership and collaborating with a variety of public and private sector entities, and a modest support to local media. Cost sharing recommended is 10% of the total estimated amount.
