Novel Approaches To Study Polymicrobial Diseases (R21): -Purpose. The NIH Institutes listed above invite research grant applications to conduct studies designed to develop innovative approaches that would contribute to our understanding of the mechanisms that impact on the virulence of infections involving two or more microorganisms or strains of microorganisms (with the exception of HIV). -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will use the NIH Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant mechanism and runs in parallel with a FOA of identical scientific scope, PA-08-091, that encourages applications under the R01 mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
