Preservation and Access Research and Development Projects Grants: Grants are given to support research and development projects that advance the nation's capacity to preserve and provide access to humanities resources. The Endowment particularly encourages applications for projects that would enhance the use of digital technology for broadening access to and ensuring the long-term availability of cultural resources. Eligible activities include projects that would: * develop technical standards and best practices for preserving and providing access to humanities collections; * devise more effective physical methods of preserving humanities collections; * develop new or improved procedures for the creation of reference works; and * address issues involving the policies and practices of humanities research institutions that affect preservation and access on a national level. Applicants should discuss potential projects with other professionals in their field to ensure that the proposed research will address important preservation and access problems. Projects that focus on the development of standards or procedures should be guided by a committee representative of the profession to ensure that comprehensiveness and acceptability of the developmental effort.
