Promoting American Tech in Iraq: The U.S. Mission in Iraq announces an open competition for eligible organizations to submit proposals to develop and implement the Promoting American Tech in Iraq to support higher education and work force development in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region (IKR). The U.S. Mission in Iraq supports political stability, education, and economic growth. This program will advance these goals by establishing labs that will better prepare Iraqi students for the work force. Iraq is challenged by difficult economic circumstances, including high youth unemployment. This program will train students and professors in the latest technology to allow them to be more competitive for jobs in the 21st century job market. In cooperation with the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil, this program will equip the IKR's three public technical universities in Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, and Erbil, with state-of-the-art Cisco telecommunications equipment to create three fully functional teaching and research labs in each university. Currently these institutes only use a simulation program of the Cisco system and creating this lab will allow the universities to have cutting edge technology that will last the next ten years and will be used to train telecommunications students and prepare them for the work force. U.S. Consulate General representatives in coordination with the university representatives will be closely monitoring the planning and execution of the program.
