- Grant Description
- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) proposes to enter into a Cooperative Agreement for an estimated $2,300,000 with 33 States for the strengthening, enhancement, and maintenance of State earthquake hazard reduction programs. By supporting and improving State earthquake programs, FEMA will reduce the loss of life and property from damaging earthquakes. Under Public Law 95-124, as amended, Congress established the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP). Under this reauthorization FEMA is directed to operate a program of assistance to States to accomplish various eligible earthquake mitigation activities. This funding opportunity will support that responsibility by providing assistance to accomplish the following eligible activities: - Develop seismic mitigation plans; - Prepare inventories and conduct seismic safety inspections of critical structures and lifelines; - Update building codes, zoning codes, and ordinances to enhance seismic safety; - Increase earthquake awareness and education; and - Encourage the development of multi-State groups for such purposes. Funded activities shall be determined through individual negotiations between FEMA and the States. Projects or initiatives that are eligible for funding under this announcement may not involve Geospatial (GIS) issues.
