Grant Description
Area of Interest 1: The objective of this Area of Interest is to promote those alternative financing approaches and transformational market activities that can accelerate current levels of investment and energy savings to meet or exceed the goals set by Congress in Section §140 of the Energy Policy Act (EPAct) of 2005. Under Section §140 of EPAct, the Secretary of Energy is authorized to establish a pilot program with financial assistance awards to at least 3, but not more than 7 States for: 1. Planning and adopting statewide programs that encourage energy efficiency and reduction of electricity and/or natural gas consumption in the State by at least 0.75 percent as compared to a 2005 baseline, and 2. Any State that has adopted a statewide program, as of the date of enactment of this Act, activities that reduce energy consumption in the State by expanding and improving the program.
