Grant Description: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, as part of its Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program, is seeking applications for retrospective research on non-linear ecosystem dynamics and threshold behavior in response to ecosystem disturbance. The objective of this research is twofold: (1) to advance our basic understanding of ecosystem resilience as it relates to ecological thresholds, and (2) to produce practical insights from retrospective analysis of past threshold events that can be applied to adaptive management of similar ecosystems to prevent problems before they occur.
