- Grant Description
- This funding opportunity will provide assistance to the Yakama Nation (Nation) to develop, manage, and protect its tribal water resources. Reclamation is leading a cooperative investigation with the Nation, State and Federal agencies, and others, to study the feasibility for additional water storage in the Yakima River Basin, Washington. The Yakima River Basin Water Storage Feasibility Study (Storage Study) was authorized by P.L. 108-7 which stated in Sec. 214 that: The Secretary of the Interior, acting through the Bureau of Reclamation, shall conduct a feasibility study of options for additional water storage in the Yakima River Basin, Washington, with emphasis on the feasibility of storage of Columbia River water in the potential Black Rock Reservoir and the benefit of additional storage to endangered and threatened fish, irrigated agriculture, and municipal water supply. Total Federal assistance available is $689,131.00. One award will be made. Cooperative agreement is restricted to the Yakama Nation. The Nation has a substantial interest in this storage study because the alternatives are mostly on lands ceded to the Nation under treaty. As co-manager of the fisheries resources in the Yakima Basin, the Nation is uniquely qualified to make policy decisions and provide input to this study. Only the Nation knows the value of the resources in the Yakima River Basin to the members of the Nation. Cost sharing or cost matching is not required. Application will be reviewed and evaluated by a technical panel.
