Integration of On-Board Idle Reduction Technology inHeavyTrucks as Original Manufacturer Factory Equipment Optiona) This area of interest is for the integration of on-board idle reductiontechnologies into heavy-duty trucks as factory installed (preferably) ordealerinstalled options. The proposed work shall include all technology andengineering development necessary to successfully and cost-effectivelyintegrate on-board idle reduction technologies into the vehicle design andassembly process. The proposed work may include evaluations of one or moreinstallations as necessary to confirm and demonstrate the operability andfunctionality of the installed system. Preferably, proposed systems shallbefull function including heating, cooling, and electrical capacity and shallbeable to achieve a minimum of 90% of the heating/cooling capacity on abtu/hrbasis of the standard cab HVAC system when powered by the truck?s mainengineat idle. The goal is to achieve on-line factory (preferably) or dealerinstallation of full function idle reduction technologies in heavy-dutytrucksby model year 2007.b) Applications under this topic area must include the participation of aClass7-8 heavy-duty truck manufacturing company and an idle reduction technologyequipment manufacturer. However, if the truck manufacturing company isproposing to use its own idle reduction technology, an idle reductiontechnology equipment manufacturer is not required as a team member.Preferably, teams will also include a heavy-duty truck fleet company whichhascommitted to the purchase and use of the proposed on-line installed idlereduction technology.c) The intent of this announcement is to focus on the integration on-boardidlereduction technologies into heavy-duty trucks as factory installed(preferably)or dealer installed options. Proposals for product research will NOT befundedunder this topic area.d) It is expected that one (1) to two (2) cooperative agreement(s) will beawarded in this area of interest. Projects should be proposed with periodsofperformance of about 36 months.e) It is estimated that a total of approximately $300,000-350,000 in DOEfundswill be available to be divided between all the awards in this area ofinterest.f) The minimum Recipient cost share is 50%.
