The Office of Basic Energy Sciences (BES) of theOffice of Science (SC), U.S.Department of Energy (DOE), in keeping with its mission to assist instrengthening the Nation apos;s scientific research enterprise through thesupportof fundamental science and the experimental tools to perform basicresearch,announces its interest in receiving grant applications for basic researchforthe Hydrogen Fuel Initiative (HFI). Areas of focus include: Novel MaterialsforHydrogen Storage; Functional Membranes; and Nanoscale Catalysts. We seek tosupport outstanding research programs that will lead to key discoveries tomakehydrogen a feasible fuel for the future. Research funded under thisinitiativewill pursue breakthroughs in materials, chemical and physicalunderstandings,and interdisciplinary theory-modeling-simulation-experimentation approachesinorder to surpass the existing scientific and technicalbarriers
