DOD FY04 Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) Exploration - Resource Development Award (ERD): The intent of the Exploration - Resource Development Award is to support product-driven research aimed at developing critical resources for use by the applicant?s laboratory and the prostate cancer research community in general to advance the field of prostate cancer research. These resources may include, but are not limited to, development of animal models, cell lines, and reagents. The award will also support studies whose purpose is to develop or refine analytical or experimental methodologies and to discover, develop or screen new or existing therapeutics. Included in the submission must be a plan describing the means by which the fully developed resource will be made available to the scientific community at reasonable or appropriate administrative costs as required for packaging and shipping the resource. Due to the developmental nature of this award, preliminary data are not required, but may be included if available, to address the feasibility of the resource to be developed. In either case, Exploration - Resource Development Award proposals must apply sound scientific rationale and logical reasoning based on existing knowledge to the development of the proposed product. Projects involving human subjects or specimens will not be supported unless they are exempt under 32 CFR 219.101(b)(4) or eligible for expedited review (45 CFR 46.110; 21 CFR 56.110). Studies that do not qualify for exempt status or expedited review will be administratively withdrawn and will not be funded. For the Exploration - Resource Development Award the government intends to advertise the resource developed through this award and to provide information to the scientific community on how to access the resource on the CDMRP website.
