- Grant Description
- The EMSC National Resource Center (EMSC-NRC) is established to assist states in reducing child and youth disability and death due to severe illness or injury. The EMSC-NRC assists EMSC grantees by providing technical consultation in creating new programs, disseminating EMSC Program products, promoting public understanding of pediatric issues in the EMS system, and working with organizations to further training efforts in pediatric emergency care for all health care professionals. The EMSC-NRC provides extensive consultation and technical assistance to EMSC grantees in a variety of areas including but not limited to: Building successful coalitions, strategic development, and identifying long-term funding sources. Newly funded projects are assisted in initiating start-up activities, improving communication skills, and developing action plans. Additionally, the National Resource Center provides guidelines for networking with community voluntary organizations that have a child advocacy focus, and it provides information about foundation, corporate and federal funding sources. The EMSC-NRC monitors the integration of EMSC/EMS on a state and local level, and it assists with enhancing public awareness of the importance of developing systems devoted to EMSC infrastructure. The EMSC-NRC aims to improve EMSC capabilities in existing EMS systems with the assistance of a network of experts who can serve as consultants on a variety of EMSC matters. The EMSC-NRC provides on-site and telephone consultation about child advocacy, cultural competency, access for children with special needs, pediatric trauma and critical care, research and evaluation, equipment guidelines, integrating family physicians and primary care pediatricians into EMSC activities.
