NOI:Sustainable and Holistic IntegratioN of Energy storage and Solar PV (SHINES): The Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) intends to issue, on behalf of the Solar Energy Technologies Office, a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) entitled ?Sustainable and Holistic IntegratioN of Energy storage and Solar PV (SHINES)?.
As solar power plants proliferate, the variability and uncertainty of the solar resource poses challenges for integrating PV with electric power systems, both at the distribution and bulk system levels. The goal of a potential FOA from the Department of Energy is to enable holistic design, development, and widespread sustainable deployment of low-cost, flexible, and reliable solutions that have energy storage as one of the key components for successful integration of PV power plants. The SHINES solution can incorporate, in addition to PV and energy storage, options such as demand response and load management to achieve target metrics of the FOA. The total Federal funding will be approximately $15M, subject to the availability of annual appropriations, with a minimum 50% awardee cost share required. Projects are expected to be funded with a maximum award level of $5M. These projects are anticipated to directly support the SunShot Systems Integration mission of enabling the technolog
ies and processes for sustainable and holistic integration of 100s of GW of solar generation into the power system.
The purpose of this Notice of Intent (NOI) is to provide interested parties advance notice that EERE intends to issue a FOA in the near term titled, Sustainable and Holistic IntegratioN of Energy storage and Solar PV (SHINES). NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH THIS NOI. All of the information contained in this Notice is subject to change. EERE will not respond to questions concerning this Notice. If the FOA is released, EERE will provide an avenue for potential Applicants to submit questions.
EERE plans to issue the FOA on or after October 20, 2014 via the EERE Exchange website (https://eere-exchange.energy.gov/). If Applicants wish to receive official notifications and information from EERE regarding this FOA, they should register in EERE Exchange or Grants.gov. If the FOA is released, applications will be accepted only through EERE Exchange.
This is a Notice of Intent only. DOE may issue a FOA as described herein, may issue a FOA that is significantly different than the FOA described herein, or may not issue a FOA at all.
