NOTICE OF INTENT: Next Generation Ranger Corps opportunity to learn traditional interpretation: A. Project Goals â¿¿ To provide youth employment opportunities to local Tucson youth in the field of professional interpretation, education, and outreach with the National Park Service at Saguaro National Park B. Project Objectives â¿¿ This project is expected to provide opportunities for at least 4 Tucson youth 1. Traditional Interpretation â¿¿ one youth will work with interpretive staff in the Tucson Mountain District visitor center, learn to create original interpretive programming, present programs to visiting public, provide assistance to non-personal service development teams, and receive cross training opportunities with other workgroups in the national park in career fields these youth may not otherwise identify as available to them in the future 2. Working with Native Communities â¿¿ two youth will be recruited from one of the neighboring native communities and will work with park education and outreach staff to develop interpretive programming for native youth both in park and on the neighboring nation lands. In addition, these youth will assist with coordinating cultural demonstrations and public programming discussing traditional harvest of saguaro fruit. 3. One youth will partner with Saguaro National Park and NPS Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program (RTCA) to work with the local Tucson community to lead a recreation focused urban hiking program, including coordinating with community non-profits to recruit participants, plan, and support the iHike for Health program piloted in the spring of 2018.
