Amargosa Vole Epidemmiology Study: The study is to evaluate the impact severity of impacts to the Amargosa vole (Microtus californicus scirpensis), a species listed under the Endangered Species Act, from newly discovered disease and from other diseases that potentially threaten vole population viability and sustainability. The objective is: (1) Determine the prevalence of mite infestation and associated disease in Amargosa voles and sympatric small mammals, (2) Determine whether additional viral and bacterial disease are present in the Amargosa vole poulation, and (3) Determine whether diseases that could threaten Amargosa voles are present in small mammal populations within or adjacent to Amargosa vole habitat.
