Miner Safety and Health Training Program - Western United States (U60): Purpose: This FOA issued by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) invites applications for cooperative agreements to support the development of training and education programs for workers engaged in mining operations in the Western United States. The major objective of this solicitation is to reduce the number of injuries and illnesses among workers who are involved in mining operations through a focused, relevant, and comprehensive training program that educates mine workers regarding how best to protect themselves from risks and hazards in the mining environment, and that expands the number of qualified mine safety and health trainers in the U.S. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the (U60) Cooperative Agreement Mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. NIOSH intends to commit a total of approximately $1 million in FY2010 to fund 1-3 cooperative agreements in response to this FOA for a period of up to 3 years. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
