The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), on behalf of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's (EERE) Office of FreedomCAR and Vehicle Technologies (OFCVT), is seeking applications for cost-shared projects supporting various programs within the OFCVT. The objective of this announcement is to provide financial support to improve the efficiency and performance and reduce emissions in High Efficiency Clean Combustion applications. The announcement addresses two areas of interest: (1) Advanced Start-of-Combustion, Nox or PM Sensor; and (2) Fuels, Fuel Additives, and Lubricant Formulations. Area of Interest 1: Advanced Start-of-Combustion, NOx or PM Sensor (DE-PS26-06NT42718-01) https://e-center.doe.gov/iips/faopor.nsf/8df825feb86675de852564650046faea/8f56cf fb824f702685257102006fdea2?OpenDocument Improve the efficiency of internal combustion engines from 30% (2004 baseline) to 45% by 2012 for light-duty applications and from 40% (2002 baseline) to 55% by 2012 for heavy duty applications while meeting cost, durability, and emissions constraints. Area of Interest 2: Fuels, Fuel Additives, and Lubricant Formulations (DE-PS26-06NT42718-02) https://e-center.doe.gov/iips/faopor.nsf/8df825feb86675de852564650046faea/945f31 624af3fef585257102007171a9?OpenDocument By 2007, identify fuel formulations optimized for use in 2007-2010 technology diesel engines that incorporate use of non-petroleum-based blending components with the potential to achieve at least a 5 percent replacement of petroleum fuels. By 2010, identify fuel formulations optimized for use in advanced combustion engines (2010-2020) providing high efficiency and very low emissions, and validate that at least 5 percent replacement of petroleum fuels could be achieved in the following decade.
