- Grant Description
- The Azerbaijan New Media Project will address the shrinking information space by focusing on three distinct but inter-related aspects of independent media and freedom of expression development. These include: increased citizen digital access to and use of diverse information content, legal defense of media practitioners and support for professionally produced content development. The program will capitalize on links to those communities currently targeted for support by other USAID programming, including community and civil society development, parliamentary process, rule of law, small and medium business enterprise development, education and health programs. The Azerbaijan New Media Project will increase supply, demand and access to news and information important to Azerbaijani citizens by strengthening both virtual on-line communities as well as actual communities in Azerbaijan through the creation of community information centers that will provide Internet Wi-Fi connectivity, technical support, and training in the use of such new technology and media.
